A True Story

Scott Van DervenPrintable Version

You don't have to be a Federal employee to understand the CFC

As a Loaned Executive, it is my priviledge to meet other Federal employees in various Federal agencies.

I was picking up some pledges at the USDA Farm Service Center in Wausau but had to wait until the Keyworker could finish with her client. The Keyworker was deep in discussion with a farmer who was trying to convert his hayfield into acres to be used for corn. The Keyworker looked up from her discussion with the farmer to ask what I needed and I assured her that her interview with her client was more important than the CFC business I was there for. I made another visit to a nearby Postal facility and returned a short while later. In the meantime, the farmer had asked the Keyworker what the CFC was and was so impressed that Federal employees participated in workplace giving that he took out a $20 bill and asked to have it included in the total from the Farm Service Center. I can't think of a greater endorsement of the caring spirit of Federal employees than that of the farmer in Wausau. He not only appreciated what we can do through the CFC but he wanted to be a part of it as well.

Just like you!

The Essence of CFC

Scott Van DervenPrintable Version

The act of helping others that we will never know is a very noble act. A large pool of small donations is the essence of the CFC. As the English writer Sydney Smith said, “It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little. Do what you can.”

Improving Lives

Denise DaughertyPrintable Version

November is Diabetes month

Health issues concern all of us.  There is no discrimination, no one is
exempt.  We are all vulnerable to concerns regarding our health, our
children's health, our parent's health, our spouse's, other family
members and friend's health.  We have no crystal ball, we can't always
know what the future holds, but we can help...

The Combined Federal Campaign provides support to many charities that do
medical research helping to find cures, alleviate symptoms, methods of
early diagnosis for a better prognosis, prevention, support and so on.
These charities rely on donations from people like you to improve our
quality of life.

November is National Diabetes month.  Diabetes is just one of the many
diseases that can affect any one of us.  You can help...Health issues
are an example of the many good deeds that are supported by the CFC.
Please take a moment to browse the Charity Listing and support the
Causes you believe in so that their missions can carry on.  You have a
choice, please choose to help.

Attached is a sampling of posters from a few of the many health care
agencies supported by CFC of Greater WI.  Please share this information
with all employees by posting on bulletin boards, having service talks,
or by forwarding the email.

NALC and CFC

Bill Rogers, President Wisconsin State Association of Letter CarriersPrintable Version

Reprinted from "The Postal Record"

I am sure most of you are aware of the CFC, or Combined Federal Campaign.  As Federal employees we are able to take part in CFC through automatic deduction from our paychecks.  It gives us the opportunity to have a certain amount of money deducted every pay period to help non profit agencies federally, statewide and locally.  The deadline this year is December 15th.  You can have as little as a dollar per pay period taken out of your check.  At the end of the year you will have contributed 26.00.  All of which is tax deductible.  You should have received a booklet listing all of the charities taking part in CFC and a form to fill out and return it to your local CFC coordinator, postmaster or supervisor.  There are many different charities you can contribute to depending on where you want your money to go.  As many of you know Muscular Dystrophy is the national NALC charity.  It’s one of  many listed in the CFC booklet along with Hospice, American Cancer Society, Red Cross, AIDS research, Church organizations, ACLU, and Salvation Army just to name a few.  Another important one to consider is the Postal Employee Relief Fund.  It is an organization that helps postal families in times of need.  I know many thousands of dollars helped the victims of Katrina along with families who lost homes in the recent California fires.

If you aren’t already a CFC contributor, please consider doing so this year.  It’s another way of helping those less fortunate than we are.  I don’t miss the amount taken from my check and the satisfaction knowing I am helping others is well worth it.  If you have questions ask your postmaster or give me a call.  Let’s make this holiday season brighter for everyone. Happy Holidays!
